  • One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.

    Stone Temple Pilots - Creep

    An interesting look at violence

I highly recommend viewing this TEDx presentation.  Although it is about the military it does speak about the balance between ideals and human error.  This is the most sensible talk about the use of violence I have see to date.

    Envy

Jealousy is simply and clearly the fear that you do not have value.  Jealousy scans for evidence to prove the point - that others will be preferred and rewarded more than you.

There is only one alternative - self-value.  If you cannot love yourself, you will not believe that you are loved.  You will always think it’s a mistake or luck.

Take your eyes off others and turn the scanner within.  Find the seeds of your jealousy, clear the old voices and experiences.  Put all the energy into building your personal and emotional security.  Then you will be the one others envy, and you can remember the pain and reach out to them.  ~Jennifer James

In seeing the developments among some I know whom I cannot name I can only offer this statement as a path out of dire straits.  For those who have eyes, let them see..

For those who don’t where the unknown pleasures came from. Joy Division, Fact 10c

The next show at the Feroz Gallery will be a group of vintage August Sander postcards and prints taken during Karneval (Mardi Gras).  I am much looking forward to it.

Nice to see a good succinct description of August Sander’s Project
antsfactory:

August SanderGerman, 1876-1964
Sander’s monumental project People of the Twentieth Century, which he began in the early 1920s, was a series of portraits that aimed to exhaustively document contemporary German society. The project grew to a total of around 600 photographs, classified into seven archetypal categories: The Farmer, The Skilled Tradesman, The Woman, Classes and Professions, The Artists, The City and The Last People. Sander’s detached observational style, and his inclusion of images of society’s outcasts alongside its success stories, reflected his professed aim ‘to see things as they are and not as they should or could be’.

    Steve Jobs  (1955 - 2011)
The first news I heard from the world this morning was about the passing of Steve Jobs. I remember the very first time I typed on a computer keyboard. It was an Apple II connected to a daisy chain network where I learned very basic Basic. I was 7 years old then. Since then I have been a tried and true Apple user.
I share this painting with you today as a tribute to Steve Jobs. In his speach at Stanford in 2005 he spoke of death as the greatest invention, and that the young and fresh become the old and tired. I feel this picture shows this.
The life of Steve Jobs has influence many lives. It changed the way the world works. It changed my life. I feel a deep sense of loss today. I am deeply thankful that Mr. Jobs lived the life he did. My condolences go to his family and friends in this time of sorrow.
